The market monitoring mobilized by Ministry of Commerce and Supplies on
Tuesday has found many irregularities in the market.
The team found Bhatbhateni Supermarket at Chuchchepati, Chabahil,
selling inedible items. Pulse, rice, flour and gram items found in a
shop in Bhatbhateni had passed their sell-by dates.
Madhav Timilsina, one of the monitoring team members, said that
Bhatbhateni Food Products in the fourth floor had stored expired food
items. The Supermarket was keeping edible items that had been recalled
from the market.
The monitoring team sealed the shop. Since 1984 A.D, Bhat-Bhateni has
grown from a ‘single shutter’ 120 sq. ft. cold store to become the
leading supermarket and departmental store chain in Nepal, and the
highest tax payer in the sector since 2008 A.D. with more than 40,000
customers daily. There are currently twelve (12) stores conveniently
located in central Kathmandu and other major cities of Nepal.
