Leaders and members of parliament of CPN (Maoist Centre) from the proposed province no. 5 on Wednesday called on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and drew his attention towards the plight of the victims of floods and landslides in the province, and the need for rescue, relief and rehabilitation measures. The delegation members demanded that the government provide an immediate relief package including Rs. 200,000 in cash, corrugated sheets, cereals, clothing and medicines to the families displaced by floods and landslides. They also called for an expert study of the villages vulnerable to floods and landslides, so as to prevent it in the future. Party leaders and MPs Barshaman Pun, Rekha Sharma, Krishna Dwaj Khadka among others had reached the Prime Minister’s office in Singha Durbar to share their concerns. In response, Prime Minister Dahal pledged to do his best in addressing the demands, according to Maoist leader Khadka. Prior to this, the team had met Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi and Finance Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara and handed over memorandum. A total of 50 persons have already been killed in Pyuthan, 11 in Gulmi, four in Palpa and two in Dang in disasters this monsoon so far.
